'Pacman' Jones pleads guilty, gets probation

01/18/2012 - Cincinnati, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones received one year of probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for an incident outside a downtown Cincinnati bar last July.

Jones appeared in Hamilton County Municipal Court and apologized to officers for his behavior, saying he was "just trying to protect someone that I loved" prior to his run-in with police.

Judge Brad Greenberg scolded Jones for his "foolishness" and ordered he serve probation, pay a $250 fine and court costs and perform 50 hours of community service for pleading guilty to the misdemeanor.

In addition, Greenberg ordered Jones to stay away from the club where he was arrested, the Scene Ultra Lounge. A second misdemeanor for resisting arrest was dismissed.

Video of Jones' court appearance posted on cincinnati.com showed the football player wearing a black collared shirt with light stripes. He said he realizes he "could have handled [the situation] a lot better."

Jones, who said he was on probation elsewhere, had been charged with the two misdemeanors after resisting arrest by pulling away from officers as they tried to place him in handcuffs outside the lounge.

He had been escorted out of the building for refusing to calm down, according to court records.

In a strange scene befitting his well-documented misbehaved past, Jones spoke with the news media after he was released from jail last July and argued how he could have been resisting arrest while wearing a neck brace.

At the time, Jones was recovering from a herniated disc in his neck that had forced him to miss all but five games in 2010. He said he was out with his wife on her birthday.

Jones, 28, played in eight games for the Bengals this past season and started seven.

Once a rising NFL star, Jones has become better-known for off-the-field legal troubles, including his involvement in a Las Vegas strip club shooting in 2007, and his multiple league suspensions. He hasn't played more than nine games since the 2006 season.
